Disposal of Roundup product containers by Amenity users
Empty cans of Roundup Pro Biactive and Roundup ProBiactive450 should be triple rinsed using a suitable device or manually as follows:
- Part fill container with 10-20% water
- Secure cap, shake or roll container and remove cap slowly after shaking
- Empty rinsings into sprayer tank, allowing pack to drain for at least 30 seconds
-
Repeat process three times
Containers should be stored safely and only transferred to someone authorised to handle waste.
Always keep a written description of the waste and complete a transfer note when handing it to the authorised waste disposal contractor. Keep copies of transfer notes for Environment Agency inspection for at least 2 years.
Empty cans, when triple rinsed as above, are classed as non-hazardous industrial waste. Coding from the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) is as follows:
-
If collected separately: ECW 15 01 02 (plastic packaging), or ECW 20 01 39 (plastic, commercial or industrial waste)
-
If not separated: ECW 20 03 01 (mixed municipal waste) as part of mixed non-hazardous waste
It can be disposed of either by:
-
-
Licensed local authority disposal / landfill site (ask the Environment Agency for a list of local sites)
Empty uncontaminated outer cardboard packaging is also classed as non-hazardous industrial waste. Coding from the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) is as follows:
Hazardous waste: Contaminated containers are classed as Hazardous waste, EWC 15 01 10 and pesticide waste is classed as EWC 20 01 09. Hazardous Waste Regulations apply to these wastes; they must be kept separate and will be charged at a much higher rate for disposal. With careful planning and following best practice during the use of Roundup it should be possible to eliminate hazardous waste production.
