Overwintered Stubbles

The Use of Roundp on Overwintere Stubbles (EF6), Under the Entry Level Scheme

This option concerns the management of land following the harvesting of a combinable crop such as oilseed rape, linseed, cereals or field beans (but not maize) until 14th February the following year.

Farmers who enter land into overwintered stubble option under the ELS need to be caredful that they comply with restrictions on the use of herbicides laid down in the ELS handbook.

The use of Roundup is not allowed as a pre-harvest desiccant or to clean up the stubble over autumn.

Roundup can be applied only after 15th February in preparation for a spring crop

Caution:  Perennial weeds like Docks, Thistles, and Couch grass are not at a very susceptible stage in early spring and Roundup treatment will give good suppression to allow the crop to grow away but not at the high levels of control associated with pre-harvest or stubble treatment.
