Latest Monitor recommendations for the 2007 season
January 2007 - Following the updated rules on ALS herbicides released by the Pesticide Safety Directorate in July 2006. There is an important change to the use of Monitor for the 2007 usage season.
-
The ‘Maximum total dose’ in the statutory box on the label has been replaced with a ‘Maximum number of applications’ of ‘one per crop’. This will have implications because Monsanto has previously recommended a split rate of Monitor for Barren Brome and Italian rye-grass and this will no longer be allowed.
New restrictions on ALS sequences with other ALS inhibitors claiming grass weed control have no effect on Monitor because no sequences with other ALS inhibitors have ever been allowed with Monitor.
Labels will be amended as new product is manufactured, but stocks at distributors and on–farm will not be re-labelled, so it is important everyone is aware of the change. PSD have emphasised the need for farmers to follow the new rules, even though they do not require re-labelling ahead of the usage season this spring.
A more detailed Technical Bulletin will be produced, explaining how to get the best from Monitor under the new rules ahead of the main usage season. The updated electronic Monitor Quick Guide pdf is available here
Monsanto support the need to preserve the efficacy of the ALS group of herbicides through these restrictions and always promote Best Practice.
