Quick Guide to Take-All Control Published
July 2004 - An 'at a glance' guide to take-all control, setting out all the information growers need to make the most of seed treatment in the coming season has been published by take-all specialists, Monsanto.
In five easy-to-read pages, the guide summarises the second wheat yield responses from Latitude (silthiofam) treatment in three years of replicated trials under a range of conditions and compared to less take-all specific dressings; the cost benefit of silthiofam treatment recorded in NIAB trials; the HGCA Recommended List trial performance of different wheat varieties as second wheats; and the value of treating malting barley crops.
In addition, it provides a wealth of useful information on situations where take-all is most likely; storing and using Latitude-treated seed; and integrating the seed treatment with cultural controls.
"There is a huge amount UK growers can do to recover yield and quality losses from take-all in wheat after set aside and spring cereals, in winter barley, and in second and subsequent wheats," stressed Latitude marketing manager, Geoff Hall. "Our Quick Guide is designed to highlight the most important considerations for busy growers, supporting practical risk assessment and control advice from their agronomists."
Copies of the useful new guide can be obtained free of charge from seed suppliers across the country or direct from Monsanto at www.monsanto-ag.co.uk
