PBIC Seeds Launches Latest High Reliability OSR

Cambridge (June 13, 2003) - Topping current UK National List trials in output as well as being rated in either first or second place in official trials in no less than five other European countries is the new PBIC Seeds conventional winter OSR.

From the same stable as all-round grower favourite Canberra, Caracas shares the established variety's proven combination of excellent early vigour, low biomass, good disease resistance and strong standing power. To this it adds a two year NL mean yield of well over 4.75 t/ha and an oil content comfortably over 44%, putting it on a par with the best hybrids in gross output terms.

"While Canberra is proving ideal as an all-round OSR that contributes as much to the rotation through ease of management as in individual crop returns, Caracas offers the benefits of greater manageability where individual crop returns are the clear priority," explained PBIC Seeds OSR manager, Karen Lonergan.

"In fact, we are confident Caracas will rate as the most manageable high output variety on the market. Its great autumn vigour means it can cope equally well with a wide range of sowing conditions. Its good disease resistance means more flexibility in fungicide spray timing. And its short, stiff-strawed habit means it is another ideal candidate for time and cost savings through direct harvesting.
