Newcomers Take Top Slots In Morley OSR Trial

Topping the gross output stakes in a nine-variety Morley OSR trial at the mid-Anglia trials centre at Otley were the latest low-biomass conventional variety, Caracas and new restored hybrid, Exact.

Caracas delivered a gross output of 109.9% of the Apex standard from 4.51 t/ha at 44.0% oil and Exact 109.6% from 4.62 t/ha at 42.1% oil. In doing so both varieties showed their superiority over current RL conventional yield leader, Winner which produced a 107.6% gross output from 4.44 t/ha at 43.6% oil.

Sharing Apex's notably high oil content and manageability, together with the vigour, disease resistance and direct harvestability of its established Canberra stablemate, Caracas looks set to challenge Winner's conventional crown in the year ahead. And Exact is rapidly making a name for itself to rival Royal and Toccata at the top of the hybrid list.
